Input delay smash ultimate6/16/2023 It's that they didn't really add anything in compensation to the nerfed shields aside from MAYBE spotdodge cancelling. The issue to me isn't precisely that shield is worse than it was in S4. There's a reason why a lot of ppl who still love S4 to this day were Fox mains. This is in contrast to Melee and honestly Smash 4, where almost every top-high tier was, to an extent, fun and wildly different from each other. Rest of the cast is either kinda boring, one-dimensional, degenerate, or all of the above. So far the only characters I have found to be incredibly fun and interesting are Falco (who over time became too frustrating for me to play) and Sheik (whose max potential kinda caps out at high tier and is hard as fuck). This may have to do with the kinda homogenized game engine, but the majority of characters in this game do not feel satisfying to play compared to Melee S4 or even hecking 64. I think the opposite is an even bigger problem: there’s a lack of fun and/or truly interesting characters in Ult. I will agree that the zoners as a whole are a bit stupider than they were in S4 but that’s about it. I am a bit optimistic with various movement tech being popularized such as Sheik’s step dash though, so if my opinion on this matter changes overtime do not be surprisedĮvery Smash game has some pretty stupid designs, and I honestly think that despite the quantity of annoying characters being at an alltime high, the worst designed Ultimate characters pales in comparison to some of the shit in S4 like Metaknight DK Bowser Sonic etc. Reaction based gameplay, as a whole, is a lot worse in Ultimate and by decreasing what you could consider to be more of a motor skill that can also be learned from experience, the game becomes filled more with uncertainty in outcome due to relying more on RPS-style reads. It doesn't help that the input lag makes it harder to be precise with your dash dancing and your ability to whiff punish. Dash dancing feels sluggish, platform movement is ungodly bad (so much so that I'm happy with how many FD-like stages there are on the current stagelist), and there's an overall less amount of viable options compared to S4 and Melee. Being able to access tilts out of dashes is a really great addition that I enjoy, but aside from that it's not satisfying at all. Palutena's recovery is also bugged on it too, which is W in my books.Īgree. While I don't really hate Kalos much, our stagelist is a bit stacked with large stages that encourages camping, and Unova would help stray from that without being TOO small. I do think Unova is probably better for the stagelist than Kalos overall though. At the very least it’s an improvement from Smash 4s, which, while I love the game, had some really terrible stages. Lylat jank is typically both predictable and avoidable for the most part, and only a handful of characters are massively cheesy on Yoshis. It honestly may very well be the best stagelist we’ve ever had in any official Smash game (errrr, well idk that much about Brawl's) as there really isn’t a stage I find hugely shitty. The variety within the stagelist is pretty decent and there is a pretty okay balance between starters, counterpicks, big, small, etc. You can probably guess how I feel about Ult's online experience with this in mind.ĭisagree. Whereas Ultimate has such awful friggin game feel that I'd go as far as say that the offline experience is what the ONLINE experience should feel like in its best case scenario. Even if Smash 4 had some really shit character designs and mechanics like untechable spin and rage, the physics engine was so freaking satisfying that it more than made up for everything bad about that game, at least for me. Even offline, 7 frames is too high when matched with the crap buffer system. Control is so friggin important to me and if the game doesn’t feel good to play even after hundreds of hours, how are people supposed to enjoy it?Īs for input lag - online is close to a friggin quarter of a second in delay even with decent connection. Your lack of control in this game is among the biggest contributors to what makes some of the most annoying characters that much more annoying, or what makes neutral feel like a chore half the time. That said, the buffer system is still absolutely trash and it, along with the atrocious input delay, are what amplifies pretty much every other flaw about this game. There are also times where I’d be playing really well and during then, I'd get in perfect coordination with the buffer system and it’d become less of an issue. Agree, but because I rarely use cstick for aerials (Old 3ds muscle memory lolol), I’m kind of lucky since some of the worst things about it don’t affect me as much.
